From sweet and smooth classics, to new names, to old names with new music...the focus here, is to shine a little light on some damn fine music.

I'll find it. You can listen, review, or tell me I wouldn't know good music if it kicked me in the ass. I personally don't give a shit.

MixTape Tuesday: Just Chillin'

Chill music, slow jams.. why not? That's the theme of Jen's MixTape Tuesday playalong.  I missed the free-for-all last week, combination of no time and too many possibilities. My mind was spinning just thinking about it. So when she slowed it down for this week, I figured I could jump back in.

Back in the day, yes way back in the day, whether you needed some good road trip music or just wanted to chill out, the band of choice was The Allman Brothers. Many years have come and gone, but that hasn't changed. So let's start this party with what I see as I look outside this morning.

"Blue Sky"

Jackson Browne is chill. Always love his imagery, and this song is no different.

"You Love The Thunder"

Going back to the day. So many evenings were spent at my friend MJ's place. Her and her sister occupied the three room attic of her parent's house, and her parent's never came upstairs. Can you say party time? There was lots of chillin' and lots of party favors of all sorts. This was one frequent tune on the turntable, yes turntable. Santana, from the Abraxas album.

Singing Winds, Crying Beasts"

While it might not be a slow jam, it is chill. Simon & Garfunkel, from the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, it's a song that always puts me in a better state of mind.

"Only Living Boy In New York"

Bringing it home for the last song. Definition of chill: Sam Cooke.

"Bring It On Home To Me"

As usual, a hell of a party Jen. The music can't be beat.

  1. Kat, I'm sitting here by myself in the kitchen exclaiming out loud as I go through your list - they're all so good! That's one of my very favorite S&G tunes and you picked the Allmans - love them. Ditto Jackson Browne. I heart this list.

  2. If it is a slow jam, Simon and Garfunkel is a must. Great list, Kat!

  5. As usual, a hell of a list Kat! It's funny, but I love You Love The Thunder and then it made me think of a song I'm planning on a future list, that then made me think of another. So I clicked on this like 20 minutes ago, went and created a new list, and just came back! So you can say this list was very inspirational. I really love this list. I am definitely seeing some personality differences as I look through song choices. For me, the chill factor of music has always been one of the most important reasons to listen!

  6. Thanks Jen, It's funny since music just always makes me chill, coming up with a list of songs defining it was harder than I would have thought. Even if it's a little Zep like "Ramble On," I can just go to that place in my mind. It's all good.Glad you came back after running away.

  7. you should talk! ( a reference to your compliment at the Doctrine...lol)
if music is meant to take us places that we might not happen to be at, at the moment and some evenings are meant for an easy, if unpredictable destination (as Jen and Kristi seem to want)...then your list is a non-specified all-stops boarding pass*!

    * yeah, nice idea, but I *did* kinda lose control of that little construct, huh? lol
