From sweet and smooth classics, to new names, to old names with new music...the focus here, is to shine a little light on some damn fine music.

I'll find it. You can listen, review, or tell me I wouldn't know good music if it kicked me in the ass. I personally don't give a shit.

Road Trip: Newport Bound

It's been a long hard road, these past few months. Tomorrow...time for a double dose of R&R. A little Rest and Relaxation...and a little Rock&Roll. It's gonna be a good day.

Look out Newport, this force of nature will be blowing into town tomorrow. Now, I'm a Northeast girl. Love the New England states...fits my style. Newport is pretty much the start of all good things, as far as I'm concerned. Beautiful coastline, ocean breezes, and chowdah. Yeah baby...fresh seafood and chowder, the way it should be. My hardest decision tomorrow will be if I crack a beer with my clams and lobster...or pop the wine bottle. It's gonna be a good day.

After an afternoon of enjoying the town, it's off to the Naval base. Sailors...yes, but not the focus of the excursion. Friends of this blog, rock group Survivor, will be "putting it all on the line" for the troops and a few friends who've decided to stop by. Oh yeah, and there will be lots of sailors too :)  And fireworks. It's gonna be a good day.

So I need a few road songs for the trip.

Allman Brothers "Jessica" ...can't tell you how many road trips there have been where this has started the journey
Edwin Starr "25 Miles"...  come on feet, start movin'...got to get me there
Aretha "Freeway of Love" ...the first lady getting a groove on
Sammy Hagar "I Can't Drive 55" ...well, i can't
Wilson Pickett "Mustang Sally" ...nobody does it better

And to get me ready for the show...

Survivor "Feels Like Love"

"If your feet ain't tappin', baby you're dead."

Damn, it's gonna be a great day.

Road Trip Destination: An All-Starr Night

Another Saturday, another night of live music, another road trip..albeit a short one.

Tonight we take a drive from the weekend house in eastern PA and cross the Delaware into New York. Upstate NY that is. Seeing a show at a venue we haven't been to before...Bethel Woods. Home of Woodstock...the real one in 1969.  The show: Ringo Starr's All Starr Band.

Now as much as The Beatles were my first musical influence, I have never seen a Beatle live. Who would have thought that Ringo would be my first. Over the years, I have heard how every incarnation of his All-Starr  Band is so much fun. Tonight I find out for myself...looking forward to it.

This show was a last minute decision, fueled a lot by the tweets of one of the All-Starr Band...Steve Lukather.  Steve is a great guitarist, known primarily as the lead guitarist of Toto.  Steve is also a great tweeter, very personable...very human. His tweets over the past two weeks have covered his anticipation of playing with the rest of the band, and as the days progressed, his excitement in the progress of rehearsal.

Since it doesn't take much to get me pumped to hear new music, those tweets were enough for me. Also the prices at this venue were so much more reasonable than in the NY metro area. So, in a few hours a party of three will jump in the Sabaru for about an hour's drive.

Time for a little traveling music.

Little Feat "Let it Roll" ...one of the best travelin' tunes
War "Low Rider" ....add a little funk to the trip
Stevie Wonder "You Haven't Done Nothing" ...keep it going
ZZ Top "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide" ...well, just because.

Won't be long before we hit the road...the review of the show tomorrow on the music blog.

Windows down, volume up...and drive.

Road Trip: Let's Ride

Road Trip.

Two words, eight letters that get my blood pumping every time. This afternoon, we take off for an evening out, in a venue about 70 miles away.

Returning tonight, it's gonna be a lot of driving, on a lot of back country roads.

Time for a little traveling music.

Now there are different types of traveling music. Some bands themselves, just have a sound that works when the sun is shining and you are rolling down the highway. The Allman Brothers are a great example of this. Put on Eat a Peach or Live at the Fillmore, and you are always good to go.

Then there are specific songs that just put you in the mood for an adventure. Let's taste a few of those today.

Lynryd Skynyrd "The Breeze"
Doobie Brothers "Rocking Down the Highway"
Tom Cochrane " Life is a Highway"

and for a destination mood setter...
Survivor "Caught in the Game"

Turn up the volume, pedal to the metal and drive...
oh yeah baby...that's what I'm talking about.
