From sweet and smooth classics, to new names, to old names with new music...the focus here, is to shine a little light on some damn fine music.

I'll find it. You can listen, review, or tell me I wouldn't know good music if it kicked me in the ass. I personally don't give a shit.

Down In Lousiana with Bobby Rush

Started out the evening listening to a little Americana. Tasty as hell, but more about them in a week or so. After that little treat was over, some fresh blues came across my computer. And damn it was sweet and juicy.

Bobby Rush is a blues man from the way back. Born in Louisiana in the '30s, Bobby did what all musicians did back then, play enough to scratch out a living. And play he did, and he's still playing twenty-something albums later.

His latest release is eleven tracks of blues, funk, soul, and hot licks. From the first few beats of "Down In Louisiana" off the album of the same name, Rush hooks you. A little funky bass, Cajun accordion, and screamin' B3 organ. Produced by Paul Brown who's also the guy smokin' the keys. Totally on fire.

From start to finish, it's real good, Let's have a little taste of the title song.

Fun, Fun and More Fun: Tom Rigney

I've have been trying to feature today's taste for several months now. Each time I start listening to the songs so I can narrow down which ones I want to showcase...I get lost in the music and another hour or so disappears. It is just so fun.

Tom Rigney is a fiddler. He plays an electronic violin, composes some sweet music and heads up the band Tom Rigney and Flambeau. Working out of San Francisco, Rigney and Flambeau play some crazy cajun and roots music, featuring everything from can't-stop-your-feet jams to bring-a-tear-to-your-eye instrumentals.

Ranging from traditional zydeco melodies to blues inspired songs to veritable waltzes, this is some interesting and totally enjoyable stuff.

Tastin' time...

"My Babe" ...nothin' could be better than to see her in a sweater and a tight skirt that won't quit.
"Drivin' That Thing" ...all the women uptown talk about him drivin that thing
"The Eyes of Love"... breathtakingly beautiful instrumental
"Party Gras" ...a little funk, a little blues, a little zydeco

A Little Zydeco If You Please

Getting close to the weekend, but not close enough. Feeling a little antsy today and just need to move my feet a little lot.

Tasty licks today...go on say they're not. Today we are going back down to Cajun Country for a little Zydeco. Not focusing on one artist in particular, just a few delicious morsels.

Lost Bayou Ramblers "Blue Moon Special"
The Magnolia Sisters "Mag Hop"
Beausoleil "Blues A Bebe"

and because why the hell not...
Sesame Street Muppets do "It's Zydeco"

Just some fun tastes today.

Serving Up A Mardi Gras Special: Queen Ida

It's Mardi Gras. Time for a little Zydeco music. A quick primer if Zydeco is unfamiliar to you.  Born in southwest Louisiana in the 1860s, it is a blend of Cajun, Blues, rural Folk and rhythms which came from the influx of Haitians coming in to work the sugar cane fields.

" Laissez les bons temps rouler "

Heavy on the accordion, it can be positively joyful...with a beat that becomes instantly familiar. Serving up the taste today is Queen Ida. Born in 1929, Ida Lewis Guillory hails from Lake Charles, Louisiana. She plays music to this day.  Most of the videos for the queen are poor in quality, so today's lick will be an audio version.  If you want to take a look at her in action here's a video link. "Queen Ida - Live"

Have a taste of Queen Ida and her Zydeco Band doing "Back Door."
