The first one that came to mind was by the Eagles and off one of my favorite albums, On The Border. Love this live clip with Frey looking like a rock star, not an LA businessman. sigh.
"Already Gone"
If you have to get dumped, let someone sing real pretty to you while he does it. From Silk Degrees, I give you Boz Scaggs.
"Its Over"
Vocally impressive, lyrically biting and overall a great sound. It wasn't number one for 642 weeks for nothing. Adele.
"Rolling In The Deep"
Paul Carrack, if you don't know the name, you know the voice. Remember Ace, Squeeze, Mike & the Mechanics. Yeah, that voice. Well in 1987 he put out a solo album called One Good Reason. There's a bunch of good songs on it, two of which... maybe even three, could fit this theme. I can't choose, so I'm posting two of them.
"Don't Shed A Tear"
"Button Off My Shirt"
Sad story getting dumped or dumping someone... I think I need some blues. Something real sweet by Robert Cray.
"I Guess I Showed Her"
Let's finish it up here with one of the greats. Mr. Ray Charles.
"Hit The Road Jack"
Guess it's time for me to hit the road too. Got a nice bottle of white here, anybody have a corkscrew?
always have a corkscrew, what about the queen of soul?
ReplyDeletesmartass, next time you come up with a list.
DeleteYeah ... what she said!
DeleteGreat list. I agree Adele is the ultimate angry white girl. The Eagles had so many you suck songs. But they didn't suck which is the best.
ReplyDeletePerfect explanation of the Eagles. Thanks.
DeleteOh man! The Eagles' Already Gone! Great choice. I love that song and particularly "...then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself...". For some reason I always pump my fist at that line. Such beautiful vindication.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah!
DeleteStop - you had me at "Already Gone!" which happens to be in my top songs of opening notes ever - gets me every time ... let me continue on to the rest. As always, nicely done, girl.
ReplyDeleteyes, yes... an excellent opening riff. on your way. and thank you.
DeleteWell I know it wasn't you who held me down
ReplyDeleteheaven knows it wasn't you who set me free
so often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
and we never even know we had the key!
Sing it boys!
I can almost see you dancing.
DeleteThank you for the Robert Cray. And the Ray Charles, just perfect.
ReplyDeletestarting to see where your musical heart lies. thank you.
DeleteOMG Adele. You're so right. Not number one for a kabillion weeks in a row for nothing. And the Eagles? Never suck. Swoon.
ReplyDeleteOn their records that is true. Last time I saw their live show it was basically recreating the studio albums note for note. Only when they did their solo stuff did they come alive. Too well oiled a machine. But I will listen to them on an album all day long.
Delete"...and don't you came back, no 'mo no 'mo"
ReplyDeleteLove that song.
it's Sir Ray, how can you not? thanks Clark.
DeleteOh heavens, I had totally forgotten about Mr. Carrack until today. Nice list Kat!
ReplyDeletethanks t, just took a look at your list. a few I'm not familiar with, so I look forward to listening later.
DeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE that we ended with the same song. Great minds...
ReplyDeleteI KNOW! Just looked at your list, yes Paul Simon... one of the best. Most are not in my playlist so I can't wait to check them out later.
ReplyDeleteCool list! Am a huge Adele fan myself!
ReplyDeleteShe writes a mean FU song. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI love that Adele song . . . but how pathetic am I: I love the Glee version better!
ReplyDeleteI suck!! I know.
Great list. Love how you ended it with Ray Charles!
I can't tell you you are pathetic because I've never seen Glee. But if I did, I would probably call you out on it. Thanks for coming by Kelly.
Delete"Already Gone" - such a satisfying song!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? We're done, who need you? The end.
DeleteI'm glad you included Adele. She and Amy Winehouse did the best of the lot of these type of songs of the past 5 or so years.
ReplyDeleteI like where you went with these. It's cool you and Tracy did Ray.

DeleteLove us some Ray. Adele is just fierce. Thanks Pal.
DeleteGreat list! I never really listened to the lyrics of the Eagles or Adele songs, but wow...they fit great! :)
ReplyDeleteHow funny because that's the first thing I listen to. I get the feel of the song through the words, then I take in the melody. Thanks Darla.
DeleteOk This list is AWESOME! I am so glad you make time for us, because it wouldn't be the same without you! Great minds think alike with the Eagles, eh? Also LOVE Paul Carrack, whenever I explain who he is to people they're always like, wait, that was him? I love Don't Shed a Tear. This was a great list!
ReplyDeleteaw, thanks Jen. It's so much fun to do. Yeah the Eagles are always good for a You broke my heart you piece of crap song. Glad you enjoyed Paul Carrack. Great vocalist.
DeleteLove your list. Always a huge fan of that Eagles song. Adele has such a powerful voice. Believe it or not, my 11 daughter can sing this song and she's not half off from sounding like Adele. Won her 1st place in a talent show for 4-H club. Hit The Road Jack is another wonderful song.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donetta, very, very cool about your daughter.
